Teaching Your Dog To Stand

Hi,
This week we are going to discuss how you can teach your dog to stand.
Please note: I'm not a dog training expert. Consult with your local dog training expert for advice.
After reading this post you can do all your dog shopping at Pierre's Dog Emporium.

Teaching your Dog To Stand.
Teaching your dog to stand is important. It can help when you're at the vet and they need to check your dog. It can also help when grroming your dog.

So how do you start teaching your dog to stand?
Have your clicker at hand.
Have your dog sit.
Then with a treat between your forefinger and thumb place the treat by your dog's nose and extend it forward.
Your dog should naturally stand. Click the clicker and reward your dog with a treat.

Practice this for a while and then instead of clicking say "stand".
Once your dog understands the stand command, you will want to teach your dog to stay while standing. This can take a while for your dog to learn.

How do you get your dog to stay while standing.
When your dog's in the standing postition, say "stay" and give your dog a treat. You may need to give your dog a few treats as they associate stay with stand.

Eventually your dog will learn how to stay while standing but it may take some time.

Keep practicing.

Next week we will discuss how to have your dog stay with duration and distractions. This is also complex and will take some time.

We'll be back during next week.
